Frequently Asked Questions

What is ketamine?

Ketamine is used all over the world as a surgical and procedural anesthetic. Ketamine was first synthesized in the mid-1960s, and is FDA-approved in the United States as a dissociative anesthetic. Considered a safe medicine with few side effects, ketamine is listed on the World Health Organization’s Essential Medicines List for all health care systems.

Ketamine acts upon many different brain receptors, mainly as an NMDA-receptor antagonist. While on ketamine, the brain's default mode network takes a break, allowing old patterns and habits to also take a rest, and supporting fresh connections in other brain regions. This creates space for transformation, and can help enhance neuroplasticity, the ability for the brain to change its connections and even structure. Although potent, correct dosage, timing, preparation, and integration are integral in supporting lasting change.

Can I book Ketamine-Assisted Therapy without acupuncture?

Yes! Please contact Horizon Healing for all your Ketamine-Assisted Therapy needs, with or without acupuncture.

How does acupuncture support Ketamine-Assisted Therapy?

Acupuncture can increase the effectiveness and augment the experience of your ketamine treatment. By calming your nervous system, acupuncture helps you enter an open and receptive space before your KAT session. It can help reduce or prevent nausea, or other possible side effects.

Acupuncture and herbs can also be helpful immediately after KAT to ground and welcome you back into your body, while amplifying and extending the relaxation cultivated during the KAT session.

Acupuncture is beneficial for a wide range of symptoms and concerns. This is the perfect complementary medicine for your Ketamine-Assisted Therapy treatment.
